Nesting Doll Design!

As always, we’re delighted to feature another spotlight, this time, it is on artist Nesting Doll Design who was transported to us in a psychedelic time machine.

What grabs us from these colorful pieces are the groovy nostalgia vibes that call back “The Factory” days or Scooby Doo or a motion picture title sequence drawn out by Maurice Binder and Robert Brownjohn.

We invite you to enjoy the following works of Nesting Doll Design, (best by the light of a lava lamp)

Nesting doll design has a really special meaning for me. The name comes from Russian nesting dolls, often called Matryoshka‘s. I’m a Russian born American raised implant. I came to America when I was adopted at 11 months old. Growing up my parents made sure to include my culture and heritage in my daily life. I hope one day to go back and visit.

It took some time for me to establish a brand palette. It’s hard for me to stick to one color scheme, so this will be sure to change again.. My current color choices really represent my bold taste. I’m obsessed with the chartreuse and neon pinks and bright reds. With a splash of purples and teal and a pop of light orange, I’m in heaven. I like my designs to wake you up and spark conversation, I really feel like these colors play well into that.

60s-70s!! I’m obsessed, I wish I could go back in time and emerge myself in the culture of those time periods. Psychedelic everything!

I would say my whole life, I remember growing up throughout school I was always partaking in art shows and projects. In my later adult life I really honed in on pushing myself and getting comfortable with sharing my art. The pandemic really pushed me to start up Nesting Doll. I’m still working at figuring out where to take her right now. Making art for myself was my first goal, and selling art is something that’s new to me. It took a while to get used to people messaging me and telling me that they’d be interested in buying my art. It’s hard for me to put myself out there, so this whole experience has been really humbling. Stay tuned for Nesting Doll in the wild.

Speaking of, I miss when music videos were the only thing on MTV! Growing up as a 90s baby I loved watching music videos 24/7. I think my favorite music video is anything by Khruangbin . They’re my absolute favorite band!

I listen to a lot of different things, lately I’ve been obsessed with DJs on Twitch, or The Lot Radio. I’m really visual so it’s cool to watch them mix live.

Spring is all right, but I’m really a summer baby!

Shout out to the Contemporary Art Museum, in my hometown of St. Louis Missouri. This would be my pick always. The building is beautifully designed inside and out. Lots of different quarterly displays - plus a cute little coffee shop and gift store.

I’m interested in figuring out a way to ethically create vintage shirts with my designs on them. I want there to be a unique twist about them. But to be honest I’m just taking my time with everything.
